Amen and Amen! God allowed it so we are subject to Obama's authority for the next 4. Praying that O'bama's Christianity wasn't just a guise to counter the Muslim accusations, but that his heart will be in line with what the Lord wants for our nation. \0/

Gay activists attack another church in Michigan - I don't understand how they think this is going to help their cause.

How come we never heard about Prop4? I realize we're (most of us) not from Cali, but I hadn't heard of it at all until I read about it on ebispo.

A different point: Looks like now that Obama is getting a look behind the curtain, George Bush's policies maybe weren't so bad afterall. Years of screeching that Bush went beyond what was necessary and now Obama is calling Bush's policies "pragmatic", President-elect Barack Obama is unlikely to radically overhaul controversial Bush administration intelligence policies, advisers say, an approach that is almost certain to create tension within the Democratic Party.

Let's hope we see more of this level-headedness.

Ladies and Gentleman...

I give you an op-ed from the NY Times regarding the proposed bail-out of the Auto Industry - written by the man who should have been the Republican Nominee.

Mitt Romney

That bailout needs an early and quick death. It's throwing good money after bad, we say down here in Texas and is doing nothing but delaying the inevitable (either their bankruptcy or serious changes in union and management compensation) and paying lobbyists back for supporting those elected this year.

Let Detroit Go Bankrupt

That's about the same thought I had when the talk of bailing out the Financial Sector started. Unless there is a TOTAL revamping of how those business's are run and the replacement of Senior Management the same thing will happen again.

Ok, seriously? Let Detroit go bankrupt? Yea, excellent idea. Punish the workers for the actions of the leaders.

Do you guys even know that I work for one of the Big Three? You know what I see every day? These people are terrified of losing their jobs; but the big wigs don't even care. If Detroit loses the auto industry we will see riots. There's already talk of rioting starting because unemployment has hit 15% or higher in the city.

So honestly, before you say "Yea, don't help them because the corporate heads spend lots of money." think about the rest of the people who's lives depend on the auto industry right now. That's 3 millions jobs PLUS gone. Want to take a stab at how many of those jobs are going to be taken from my city? About 600,000 in the city alone. When your city is only 750,000 people, losing 600,000 jobs in the city and the surrounding areas will kill every single bit of business around here.

You want to see the 1960's and the 1920's revisited in Detroit, then let the car companies fail.

Edit: Honestly, I've got to agree with Mitt on most of what he said. There's got to be some sort of concessions by the heads of the companies. But you cannot let these people suffer for the actions of the higher ups.

As for what Mitt's dad did for AM, I mean seriously, the guy was an economic genius. The people they have in there now aren't a 10th the man he was. He took that company, rescued the workers, then sold it off when he made sure that the time was right. Right now we need someone like that. I'd vote for Mitt for Govn'r any day.

I think most of us would be ok with some help for the Big 3 if we felt it was throwing money at the situation without a change in what made them get there - if they're burning through billions per month and don't make changes, then sending them another $25billion will only put off the inevitable a little while while they burn through that cash.

At some point they have to take responsibility for what got them where they are - as a congressman said today, it's a little disingenuous for the CEO's to spend $30k to fly a private jet from Detroit to D.C. then get off the plane with a tin cup in their hands. The union also has to make serious concessions in their contracts and pensions - a guy who used to work in of the Big3 factories called into a radio show the other day to give their side of the issue - his contract had allowed him to retire at 55 and now, fearful for his pension at 57, he actually said out loud "what do you expect me to do, get a job?"

Yeah, the problem with that is who the heck would hire him???? slap

That's why our government is so hesitant to make any decision. The repercussions are huge no matter which way they go.

With the situations like this and now all around the world, with people losing everything, it's so important to keep our focus on the Lord. He is the hope, not Obama, not the economy. Those things are ever changing. God is never changing. \0/

They have built the chevette, the pinto, the fury and more recently the fiesta, the taurus, the topaz...and on and on. They build inferior product for too much money - ie. no value. I cant tell you how many i have seen a new model Corvette even and a headlight or tail light is out or brake lights across the spoiler on a high end GM car are out. Even the cadillac. Cheap parts are used because too much money goes into paying a Union. American GM chevy and chrysler cars average over 1500 bucks more per car because of unions. Period. It is costing them money. Why dont people buy American made cars....? Because they have. I rented multiple cars in my travels. HHR, Sebring, PT cruiser, Cobalt, and A hyundai. The hyundai was by far the best driving , , most comfortable and most intuitive of all of them. The Cobalt is a piece of junk. The HHR a slug, the sebring, the most messed up interior of its kind and the PT just plain uncomfortable all the way around. And all of them cost more than the Hyundai I drove (except the cobalt.
I hate it because I am true blue when it comes to America - but I wont own American vehicles...until they change.

That's a bit over-stated - GM still sells almost as many cars as the rest of the foreign carmakers combined. Until gas spiked to $4+ per gallon we all bought SUV's like they were going out of style and trucks, big trucks, have always been huge sellers over the last 20-30 years - so yes, they make cars lots of us will buy. The quality of Saturns, a lot of the newer Fords and Dodge/Chryslers have improved greatly over the years, making them some of the best on the market.

The problem isn't sales, it's the built-in hit to profits they take with each vehicle due to out-dated construction technology, huge pension anchors around their necks, and huge layers of bureaucracy within their management ranks. They can't stay in business with that kind of penalty to their profits. Serious cuts/improvements in all 3 areas have to be done.

The base issue was that he shouldn't have retired at 55 - who else gets to retire at 55? If your retirement is based on funny numbers propping up your pension, then retiring at 55 might not be the best option. If your company goes under because of the burden of such pensions, then... you've got issues. You've got 25-30+ years left - your company paying those kinds of pensions for so many years is not going to be able to keep it up for long.

If your personal retirement fund reaches an area where you can retire early, by all means hit the highways.
