Appears to be tracking nearly identically to Hurricane Rita:

I *really* don't want to evacuate again, we have patients that didn't do well at all from last week.

Please pray for safety of everyone in its path.

Mandatory evac - spent the day getting patients evacuated - one passed today - she was doing poorly after the last evacuation and I guess the stress today was the final straw. smirk

We're going over to Lake Charles in the morning and waiting and seeing from there whether we need to go further or not.

I hope this doesn't come off as insulting, but why do folks live down there?

I could never have that kind of annually predictable inconvenience as a part of my life. Disrupting business, disrupting school, disrupting family, disrupting church.

What a pain.

I'm sure there are folks in Dallas that need hospice care. or San Antonio or anywhere else in Texas not near the coast.

Not any different than people who live up north and suffer through snowstorms or blizzards. Dallas is part of tornado alley, San Antonio is constantly in a drought situation, California is ready to slide into the Pacfic most any day - there's no place with the perfect climate. At least with hurricanes we get advance warning. Once the pendulum finally swings the other way and they stop calling for mandatory evacuations every other week then we'll be back to normal. Nobody left before Katrina - I can remember one evacuation in my lifetime prior to 2005, and we didn't leave then.

i think the reason why people live on the coast down here is ... well, it's the coast. we still want a beach house on the gulf. the waters are warm, and the climate is nice, windy and calm. storms are fun most of the time, and the food down here will BLOW you away! nothing compares. one day when i have my cabin on the coast down here (the waters on the west side are too cold and it costs too much to live on the east coast), ill pack up what i need and run like everyone else, and ill pray insurance holds up.

plus there are always those of us here in dallas who will open our doors for those down south.

I ask myself the same question about the people who live along the rivers that flood most years... I'd think you could move 5 miles away and still be close enough to the river if you wanted to see it. With hurricanes, you're gonna get hit anywhere within 300 miles of the coast - just ask the people in Arkansas on Sunday.

David loves corndogs slurp

I think we're going back today - we'll probably stay at Melanie's grandmother's home in Sulphur and commute for a while until we get power back. I need to find out where our patients went.

Thanks Allen,

really I just asked the question to see if Echo would respond to me in any thread on any topic by telling me that Mormons believe they are saved by works.

We're still under mandatory evacuation - the water isn't safe to drink and is salty/brown. Beaumont is supposed to have all power back by October 6th, so we got that going for us smile

My brother and my aunt both lost their homes - nearly 100% of Bridge City is/was under water - my aunt lost hers to a tornado. Please keep all of the homeless in your prayers. I met a lady yesterday who's from Germany and can't seek fema assistance due to circumstances beyond her control. We'll give assistance where possible, but please keep A.P. in your prayers too.

Thank you, things are beginning to return to normal-ish. They are lifting the mandatory evacuation tomorrow - hopefully we'll have drinkable/non-brown water soon.

My friend Suzy James has posted hundreds of images from Hurricane Ike along the Crystal Beach/ Bolivar Peninsula:

Amazing photos of the destruction of the water and wind - so many places we grew up going to aren't there anymore. We had some excellent pizza with Drew and Amylou at Mama Teresa's and it's just a concrete slab and debris now. frown
