Who's watching? There's soooo much to see and not nearly enough hours in the day to see it all If you're keeping up with the medal count (and why wouldn't you?), here's a good site to watch: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/olympics/2008/medals/tracker/Right now the USA is ahead in medals, but China is kicking tail in Golds (6-3). What's your favorite sport, event? And which do you wonder how in the world they make it as an Olympic sport when they plan to drop softball and baseball after this one? I love the gymnastics and beach/indoor volleyball, the sprints are probably my favorite tho. As for ??? sports? I scratch my head and hit 'fast-forward' when those people riding the prancing horses come on... why is that an Olympic sport?

Gotta love the swimming!!! IMO some of the most powerful atheletes in the world are swimmers. Of course having been a swimmer for some ten years at one point might skew my preferences...

Do they are are they going to do high diving? I love that. I also love the pummel horse and the rings. It amazes me how they can maneuver their bodies like that. I have to agree with Steve tho... (can you believe it??? ) It takes enormous athletic ability to swim like that. Allen, the prancing/dancing horses is a head scratcher, but it must have to do with your control over another living thing and the uncertainty of it. In individual events you are the only one you can blame for choking. With the horses, you have to anticipate their movements and try to control those as well... Just my thoughts on that...

Yes, but is that an athletic event? Siegfried and Roy should be competing if that's the criteria

Neither should these horses... Anyone catch the 400 relay swim? Probably the best relay ever - there were 5-6 teams at better than the world record time and the last guy caught the french swimmer from behind at the last split second...

i just watched that OLD lady (teehee, she's 41) race and of course qualified, but in my honest opinion, she's a tad overboard. 4 stretchers, 2 trainers, 2 massage therapists, who knows who else. .... just for her ? and she says she balances being a mom with athletics ???????? is there some more hours in the day i dont know about ?

When she says 'balance' she also means she does nothing else - eat, sleep, train, baby. Sponsors are very helpful like that - nothing like the rest of us

If you put the Tivo on fast forward, the 20k race walk actually begins to look like a sport. If I won a medal doing that, David would hock it on ebay if he didn't have to re-live the embarassment all over again.

ack, did you see the 100meter final? That guy (Bolt) is amazing! This is his first year to run the 100 meters and he made the rest of the field just look silly...

I don't know...have you ever tried to walk that fast? It's really hard to do. Your body just wants to start running at that speed. I think it's more of a control feat. (but he would probably still want to hock it on eBay... )

john is so super jazzed up about the track and field. he used to run and SWEARS he could do ten miles in a little over an hour. i am like, it took me an act of congress to get me to complete a MILE in health class, even when i was weight training. hate cardio.
fun stuff to watch. when is this over ???

I think it's a 2 week event, or so 10 miles in an hour is good, but definitely doable for track people. I ran track in high school - not super fast (I mean really, what track coach lets linemen run the mile? eejit ) my fastest mile was 5:11, I almost lettered that year. Race walking is not a sport, and there's so many 'sports' in the olympics - who thought bouncing on a trampoline deserved medals? It's like gymnastics for full retards. Gg gu gu gu gold Me me me medals...

Still with the silly 'sports' - when did bmx biking get added? I like it but never knew it was in the olympics. Lots of others even sillier - badminton? Yard Darts?
