(i was remembering things about this site and how it's grown. anyone else have any things that they remember ?)

..... when this site wouldnt let you post twice in a thread, if you said something stupid or you wanted to take it back, you had to wait till someone said something and you got another turn. it made you think twice .........

It was the only way we could have a discussion... some people would post 30 times in a row stream-of-conscious stuff

and i still call this site "stand" ... that's how old school i am!

We used to call the forum part of the site "Praise Joint" - we were trying to strike that 'joint' vibe, a place to hang out. I still call it PJ once in a while Eventually I moved it more to a coffee house kind of place... I may need to go back to a grey and purple color scheme.

I need to clean up some of the old areas, with the new stuff coming on the forum software we'll have blogs for those that are interested.

Probably the funniest, tragic, and weird member here was 'J' - he came on, talked for a while, faked a suicide, I stayed up half a night trying to track him down in Denver or Cincinatti or something and his 'mom' came on saying he did committ suicide, then 'J' miraculously showed up a year later acting like nothing had happened

yeah, i miss unconventionalchrischen ..... but i still keep in touch, just miss the talks we had and the perspective.

i remember "j" ..that was all kinds of wrong. whatever. if you could send a slap, then send one.

I miss UKC. If anyone has his e-mail could you tell him I'd like to talk to him? He's got a perspective on some stuff that I sort of need to discuss with him.

But you all agree on everything and don't think it matters what you believe besides believing in Jesus to be saved.

"Then you're saved, who cares about the big clock thingy... as long as you don't believe in the Mormon Jesus."

I know there are some minor differences within most protestant theology, but not on the points that make a difference in our salvation - ie: sprinkle, dip, submerge; pre-millenial, post-millenial, a-millenial. I also know there are denominations that think the rest of the world is going to hell - I think they'll be surprised who did and didn't.

That's not the reason the mormon topic was closed - it became the focus of this site and we're not mormon apologists. I personally didn't have 8-12 hours a day to research answers that some people have spent lifetimes working towards; and as the guy who's responsible for the overall message on this site people who want to dig deeper into mormon theology by now know of several places to go for those answers. After 4 years it was time to move on...

I know I've stated that at least once before... pick a different topic, like jehovah witnesses, and tell me why you think they are cultists, and contrast that to the mormon Jesus.

or we can start in on the catholics, i have tons of things i have asked the forums on EWTN. .... i might opt out, but it might be an idea. they say curiousity killed the cat. i say curiousity woke the cat that slept to much and pointed out the world around him.

or we can turn things around a bit and describe what you think will be in Heaven when we get there.

It would be categorically unfair and decidedly unchristian to launch any sort of debate about a faith that is not represented on this site.

Without question many of the topics discussed would turn into lightly veiled attacks on their beliefs and as such, it would be inappropriate.

That's what was going on before I came to the site with respect to Mormons and that's simply human nature so it's best to avoid any such topic at all.

Maybe a JW would show up at some point and set us straight?

Most people consider someone presenting a different viewpoint as simply arguing. While it is certainly presenting an "argument" only occassionally did I feel the thread descend to the level of mere "arguing".

I learned alot in that thread and I am thankful for that.

i consider it really informative as well. i will reserve my personal opinion about the whole thing, cause really, it's irrelevant, but kudos to joel for knowing his stuff and backing it up. i'd like to see more enlightening threads ... it's been a while.

we can call it enlightening, not argumentative. if we listen, then we learn.

He is quite an intellegent person and extremely well learned in LDS teachings. No doubt about that. He's likeable too.
I would like to see more enlightening threads also, like you said: "If we listen, we learn"
