Okay, here's the help I need, tomorrow night we have a girls' nite bunco thingy where everyone is meeting up at this restaurant and it's something i have never had. For all you seasoned diners and those who are a little more cultured than i (which means all of you) please check this site out and tell me what to order .. or what is good. i mean, i get the whole ceasar goat cheese bit, but hericot verts ????thanks. i know it has nothing to do with anything important, but yall are trusted honest people, from all over the country, so thanks ..

Oh, mainstream.

OK - if you like tuna the tuna should be good. The chicken (both of them) looks real good, haricot verts are french for green beans. The Tilapia should be good too. There's a lot of fancy names for some fairly basic stuff there. The Penne w/ pesto should be good if you like pasta.

If it were me I might try the Spaghetti avec noix - everything included is "normal" but the mix is unusual smile

I've heard of kobe beef on the food network. I haven't tried it yet, we've been poor for a while now. That should change soon enough smile

we are poor too, thanks for the help. And i see what you are saying. i can MAKE most of the things now that i can kind of see what they are. since john doesnt like red sauces, ill try the spaghetti myself.

and something else i am pasting from wikipedia about kobe beef _
\
After all beef imports from Japan were banned on September 10, 2001, due to the discovery of B.S.E.,[4] many retailers began to heavily market the U.S. raised beef as "Kobe-style". The ban on the import of Wagyu beef to the United States ended on December 12, 2005.[5]

so if this is true, you may or may not be getting your beef KOBE raise or wagyu raised. be careful when you order it, you find a way to figure out if its real. or youll end up spending $50 on a cut of beef that may or may not have ever been cross bred with kobe style .... i myself think its a rip off

i am not a huge tuna fan. to me, tuna is not the best fish. but i have had good tuna, it's just not my first choice. i'd rather sardines and ancovies than tuna ... i think ill do spaghetti or play it safe with a salad, but i am sure somoene will get the tuna and ill grab a bite.. i am sure you guys are right. thanks so much. (dont tell anyone fancy, but i'd much rather be tailgating with hot wings and saving all the beer for myself)

I like a tunafish sandwich, but I wouldn't order it in a restaurant when there's other choices like are on the menu. :)There was at least 4-5 other things I'd pick ahead of the tuna.

I would imagine you are correct, tho it could be you they are foolin wink

That said, there are a lot better choices on the menu, in my opinion, than something I can get out of a can on a daily basis.

Yes, I am easily fooled, that's probably why I tend to like to eat my food raw...that way I pretty much know it's what I ordered and not covered up by a cooking process... tongue

A tuna steak, pan seared just lightly, with garlic and some herbs and a little wasabi cream... kiss

laugh

AHI TUNA - DONT COME FROM NO CAN BIG AL!
IT IS "SUSHI GRADE" FISH. FAR DIFFERENT THAN JUST PLAIN TUNAFISH.
SOME OF THE FISH GO FOR 1000'S OF DOLLARS A PIECE WHEN THEY ARE BUYING FOR SUSHI GRADE TUNA.
AHI TUNA IS LIKE THE MOST TENDER SOFT FILET MIGNON YOU'VE EVER HAD X ABOUT 10 IN BEING SMOOTH AND MELT IN YOUR MOUTH.
IT IS JUST DELICIOUS.
hey I just found out I am going to begin traveling a bit to Texas to open new territories for the company. What big city are you bunch of yahoos near??? houston, dallas, san antonio ?

Most are near Houston (all of the original cast were from/around Beaumont), angel's near Dallas smile

I understand the deal with ahi tuna (and yes, I've had fish that was $$$ - I've also had fish that was $ and it tasted just as good if not better than the $$$ fish), in my opinion there are better choices than chicken of the sea wink

I guess it just takes an intelligent palate to appreciate the sophistication of the Ahi. grin
Just kiddin. Ahi really isnt much different than a nice filet mignon in price.
Funny though, I really dont care for tuna any other way - even grilled.
Went to a place called Carmines band in Baltimore the other day. And it was Italian speaking black curly haired guys serving up slices and strombolis that were UNBELIEVABLY GOOD. slurp It was like Cheeburger cheeburger skit from saturday nite live. Quite an environment.
I do love the pizza and the calzones and the strombolis... chuckle

yall are funny. well, that place ended up REALLy good and reasonable. i split two things with a friend .. one was a petit pear and warm goat cheese salad with lavendar honey vinegrette and i think i could have eaten a TROPH of that stuff .. YUM! and we also split a wild mushroom and goat cheese and pignoli nut w/aged mozzarella and taragon and cracked pepper and it pretty much rocked. three tiny peices was such a teaser, but it was worth bringing a couple peices home for my husb. to try (i always do that at new places) .. and i had a couple drinks, the total bill was less than $30 .. so pretty reasonable. i for sure want to go back. althogh, i still think ill skip the tuna .. and i dont eat chicken out either, i can make chicken any way really, so i skip it too. glad everyone had fun on my dining forum!
