I have always felt I related to David of the Bible. It seemed like I could fall into trouble as easy as sliding down a slide.

Today, I felt God telling me to look into His Word. I have not been doing that lately. I have not even been going to church. I set my alarm. Then I get up turn it off and tell myself I can sleep another hour. Exactly what you are thinking is what happens... it is never an hour. I wake up two hours later. I comfort myself by saying well I am up early every day. I was just tired. Then I tell myself I will go to evening service. Either I do not notice the time OR I take a nap. I want to be there, I feel I should be there. I feel so guilty.

With my own short comings, trouble with #2 son, being so busy with work or the kids' schedules that I am not sure who I am. I just think to myself how can God help me, let alone answer my prayers if I am such a sinner often times back sliding person!!??

I have been thinking of David of the Bible much lately. One because I named my #2 son after him. I have had much heart break with my son. Two, because I, myself seem to have difficulty of my own making myself.

Why is David the Apple of God's eye? Why would God want him to known as that? David was a downright sinful lad. He did great things but he sure messed things up too.

David is not only the "apple of God's eye" but he is the "father of the messiah"!

Maybe I know the answers to all that I question or maybe I THINK I do.

If God cannot look upon sin and I am sinning then how can God look upon me? How can God answer my prayers, longings, heal me??

IF you are a Christian by Biblical standards, then God does not see you just as you, He sees you through the shed blood of Jesus. It covers your sins literally. God remembers them not. Now it can get more theological than that. but never sell short the sacrifice of Jesus Christ to atone your sins for you. You must ask, repent and then accept forgiveness.It wasnt cheap, but it is free for us.
You need the fellowship of other believers, however going to church does not make one a christian any more then sitting in a garage can make one a car...
Scripture will list things that can hinder God working in your life. UNforgiveness is one. God will not hear your prayers if you have unforgiveness. That is scriptural. And it needs to be worked through. Just get in the word, read some Psalms and the book of John, read through hebrews 11 - the faith chapter. You know , the Word says in our weakness HIS STRENGTH is made perfect, relax and let GOd offer His strength. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. The Bible says we can boldly approach the throne to obtain mercy and grace in a time of need.
FOr starters read Psalm 91. One of my faves, when I am down. DOnt rush through it though, dwell on it. Get it into your soul. Get somewhere quiet and just be in Gods presence. Quality time with God comes from quantity time with God.
Be encouraged. You are loved.

God loved David and wants to clue us in on why.

If we examine Davids life even in a coursory manner we can see four things that stick out hugely.

1. David believed in God's sovereignty. He took God at His literal word. As a young boy he killed a giant without quaking because that giant was coming against God's people and God said that he favored His chosen people. Many people and even some Christian songs say that David was trembling. Nowhere does it record that, to the contrary it does say that David prophesied Goliaths death and the manner of how he would die.

2. David was capable of tremendous sin. David was an adulterer, fathered a child with another mans wife. He even murdered the husband of the woman he adultered with (by proxy by sending him to the front portion of a battle with the intent that he die in that battle)

3. David worshipped. David recognized that God was Holy and far above us mere humans. When David's illegitmate son died the first thing he did was to get up off the floor, wash and go worship God. That is where many of us fail. God's judgement fell on David and took his newborn son. David still recognized God's Lordship over him and put that into practice. Every time David fell he fell on his knees.

4. David praised. As the leading Psalmist he was gifted with the ability to play, write and sing. BUT also look at his life. When He was bringing the Ark of the convenant back to Jeruselem he anced in front of it. (danced in the very presence of God, for that is what the Ark represents) His wife scolded him for being an "embarrasment." Instead of aquiescing he told her that he would get even more ridiculous than that if he felt like it.

The lesson:

Confidence in God
Constant worship even in low points
Crazy praise

Will overcome a life of sin.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We of course know also to ask for the forgiveness that was made complete when Christ said "it is finished."
