I love Italian food. I was just wondering if they were any good. I love mom and pop or locally owned Italian better than chains like Olive Garden...although you can't really beat Carraba's... *YUM*

We packed up the family and sailed from the Port Arthur Yacht Club to Esthers under the rainbow bridge...pretty good seafood, but the trip itself was better than the food...I didn't think it was awesome...but then again we had just eaten seafood and Larry's French Market in Pt. Nechas or Groves or something...now that was awesome. Crawfish Pistolettes, boiled crawfish, fried oysters...WOW.
And the entertainment was good too...Even had an Elvis impersinator. eek It was different...but great.

MAKING ME HUNGRY. YES, my brother said that about JOE'S , AND he and his wife were in Italy about a year or so ago, said this place reminded him of old world restraunt, mom and pop type . the small salad sides need more punch, but big sal;ads are good i hear. depends on who you ask. I love it! And atmosphere is great too. [; friendly. not like ''no soup for you'' but one guys does favor that actor on seinfeld. and ebloves raymond. stephanias dad. oh back to food, i skipped breakfast and lunch today. not on purpose. nervouse stomach, dont like to eat before church.

We tried it.... twice that weekend, it was real good slurp

Another one that just opened is "Frankie's Italian Grill" by Chili's on I-10. It's not much to look at but the prices are real reasonable and the chicken marsala is yummy, the best I've had from any restaurant around here. Melanie had the lasagna and she liked it a lot too smile

hoppy

Joe's Italian pretty yummy!! Haven't tried Frankie's yet. Actyally haven't been to anything that's been there since the Waffle house, or what ever that was originally!!
Brad's... Just ate there a few months ago, and it was good!! Had the gumbo. It was cold that day. smile
Never been to Bryan's 77, heard it was good too! Pricey but good.

Brad's is still open, food is good but a bit overpriced if you ask me wink

Found out yesterday that Frankie is Joe's brother - Frankie runs the more 'sit down' type of restaurant while Joe's is more fastfood. They're both tasty and good smile

Hey Michelle...
You can't get much more "mom and pop" Italian that a little place on Nederland Ave, just off the highway. Right next to a car audio place with a huge american flag in the front. That place belongs to Mr. and Mrs. Salvadora (aka Rosa and Sal) They are an elderly italian couple. Been in the US for many, many years. He cooks and she waits on customers. Bill and I went and the Shrimp alfredo was incredible. I had lasangne. He makes his own Italian sausage. Could of been a bit more spicy for me. But, very authentic and good. I want to go back and try the pizza. On the menu, it says, "we don't speak much english, but we have really good pizza" (pretty close, if not exact quote)
I just think that it is neat that they are still in business and are able to do it all themselves.

I have to weigh in on this one again....
I worked for four years at Pappadeaux. And they do have some good eatin' there. (They were an excellent employer to me, as well.)
However, my most favorite place in the whole wide world to eat at is a place called "Chuck's Sandwich Shop" smash myself up over all the calories...but, since I live kinda far away...it is a treat that I only get to enjoy perhaps once or twice a year frown .
By the way, that is another "mom and pop" place. Chuck and Debbie own it (great people....my sister used to work there) and they run it everyday. There is another cook and delivery guy that has been there for several years, too.
(My mouth is watering just thinking about those yummy chili dogs!)

Later,
Saphy
