*Sniff* I got a turtle last monday at a pet store (Tommy). And the same day we found another turtle (Cracky) who got hit by a car... his shell was cracked, but he looked fine. Well... I bought turtle food, but they won't eat it. And then I read online that they eat greens... so I put some veggies in there... and they won't eat that either. Cracky died this morning... Momma says it's because he got hit by a car. Anyway, I called up the pet store and told them how Tommy wouldn't eat, and they said that's because he eats fish. So I went up to the pet store and bought 10 fish... (10 for $1) Tommy won't eat 'em. What do I do? He hasn't eaten in 4 days.

Yeah a lot of time they will eat a worm called a "meal-worm" Put three or four in a small dish like a bottle cap. what size is tommy? and what is the temp in his habitat?
(another in my bag of tricks, I was an amature herpetologist for several years)

My sister's turtle ate plain ol earthworms. I hope you like to dig. He ate them live. He liked to see 'em squirm as he started to bite into them, I guess.

Erm... he lives in a baby pool in my backyard. I read that the temp has to be 85 or so outside, and it's usually about 90-95 outside... It may be a little hot, but some of it's shaded...
Tommy is about the size of my hand... He's really cute. And I just read that turtles don't eat so often. Once ever 4-5 days. Mine hasn't eaten in 5... I think he'll be alright... but I'll try the worm just-in-case.

Awww, I'm sorry Ashley. It's very painful to lose a pet.
I would certainly go back to that pet store though and get your money back. Chances are there was something wrong before you bought him. Especially cos you called and asked why he wasn't eating.

I am so sorry Ashley.
Often reptiles come from the pet shop with sickness already. Most of the time (like the snakes and lizards and frogs) they are all caught wild in their native country and and shiiped over in an airplane irregardles of their health. I don't know what pet store you got him at but most will refund or exchange....

I don't think I want to. I'm really sad about the whole thing. I think he was worth the $15, even if he was only with me for a week. It's kind of disrespectful towards him to ask for my money back.
I don't know. I feel really sick to my stomach. I've been throwing up from crying so much. I get teary eyed when I see roadkill... A pet is even worse. Especially when his life was trusted to me and I just f-ed it up.
I'm sad... and angry... but more sad then angry.

I ond't think for a minute that you had anything to do with why he keeled over. He wasn't in your care long enough!!! One thing I do recall is that there is no way that he can starve to death and there is no way that the temp was too hot or too cold (heck they live all over the US!) He could not have dehydrated and there is no disease that is native to turtles that he could have caught and gotten so advanced as to cause his demise! (Translation= You didn't do it)
God bless!
