I have been having problems with my net connection at home for ~2 months now. It just won't connect unless I reboot the modem lots of times... even then it doesn't always work.

That is unless the ISP is sending someone around to fix it, then it works Someone is coming in the morning, my modem is working fine now and will be until right after the guy leaves

Hook the modem up the the 220v at your stove. Trust me, it won't work when he gets there......

Had that problem Allen.(starting to work again) Cancelled one appointment. It happened again and the person who scheduled the appointment said it may well come back but not to cancel the appointment. Fortunately it didn't so the repair guy had a lot of checking to do. Bottom line, he checked a repair from the last time and found some of the cable sort of scrunched. That was the cause. He replaced it no problems since. When the guy comes have him check the connection at the box outside and where it comes into the house. Hope things get better.

Finally.... it appears my modem is working right at home, now my computer there is giving me fits. I think I'm gonna have to junk it - I can't work on it without it either locking up or shutting down randomly

My diet apparently isn't going too well either, those 4 lbs I lost magically reappeared (He says while typing and eating a few cookies at the same time).

It's not the windows software, it's my old notebook pc I used to use here. It got water in it from a leak in my office ceiling and hasn't been right ever since. I've replaced the hard drive and keyboard - it worked ok for a while, but the hard drive is corrupting the files here and there. I probably need to replace the motherboard, but I'm not gonna spend that kinda money. The screen needs to be replaced too, it quit working the same day (I started using a monitor from another old pc at my house plugged into the back of it).

Anyways...

Once arstechnica gets around to updating their recommendations on their DIY computers, I'm gonna begin buying the pieces for the 'hotrod' pc.:

Sounds like a nice system, certainly better than my piece-de-junk at home Their budget systems are pretty sweet too, boss-lady may make me go that way anyways... I've been buying too many toys in the last year and she'll prolly crack the whip
