Please send some up for the people in the mid-Atlantic states that are getting bombarded with snow. In Delaware where we used to live they freaked over 3 inches. So far they have 19 smash

We're expecting 18 or so, but we are used to it... rolleyes

mebbe I'll stop bathing, brushing my teeth, and using deoderant... that woulda saved me ~$30 or so...

hey, so that's what happened tongue

working ER makes me not like people... most are dumber than rocks and duller than dirt smash

You've had a boil on your rump for 2 weeks? Come to the ER!

You've had a toothache for 3 weeks? Come to the ER!

Got a cough that started at lunch? Hurry to the ER!

Got a aching fever of 99.3? What are you waiting for, get to the ER!

Then wait with the other hundred eejits just like you and complain because it takes more than an hour to get you in... smash

OMG...we think alike...now you know how I feel...lol...don't forget...you've got what stuck where...why would you put that there...in your ear I mean tongue , you've been coughing for 2 months..so why are you here at 2am.......but then when you get the truly ill...the ones who never complain...it makes it all worthwhile...that feeling of accomplishment when you've been able to help save a life. No where else is the stress level as high as in the ER...we're all adrenaline junkies...but the harsh reality is that we are so underappreciated that a lot of our staff burnout quickly...and it's not that we don't love what we do it's just the constant barrage of negatives we hear not only from the higherups (administration) because the ER can never do anything right...but the constant verbal and physical abuse we are exposed to on a daily basis...I have been called every name in the book (unfortunately they were probably well deserved <grins>), I have been pushed, kicked, knocked over...head-locked, spit on, bitten..by patients/family because they did not like something I said or did..most likely because I didn't bow to their every command or they weren't seen in what they think was a timely manner...but yet I keep on trucking because I truly feel that God has me there for a reason...he has to because it certainly isn't because of the money rolleyes or the staffing eek I hope that out of the 100plus patients we see on a daily basis that I have made a difference in at least one of their lives, and that's what keeps me going and continuing to put up with the less than desirable conditions....I really do love what I do... jumpy jumpy

Had a 3 year old drowning victim yesterday... fell into a pool belonging to another family, water was green, so they never saw him until he'd been down ~30 minutes frown Lots of family and friends at the ER. Kids are a gift, hug yours today.

Lots of people involved in the resuscitation, backing up the ER for hours, which those waiting did not understand and we couldn't say.

Another patient is one of those you hear about falling through the cracks of the medical system. We have the best in the world, and I had never seen a patient handled like this... in general, anyone, whether they have money or not, gets the same great care. This one had no money, had been to 4 different hospitals ~8 times in the last week, which isn't good the longer you continue to go, as the ER's tend to think you are just milking the system. I seriously think he had something not caught/understood yet, as he was still sick when he left. I couldn't do anything other than encourage him to seek care at his doctor's office. We treated him as best we could without an admission as inpatient, but 2 doctors saw him and said there was nothing they could do that the 3 previous hospitals didn't do... so he was discharged. Frustration...

So heart wrenching, Allen frown

I will be praying for the family of the child and for healing/God's wisdom and direction for the other patient.

It has to be tough Allen and Haze, but here is my gripe about ER.
See, the experience you have going to Er is one you dont forget, well, when i go, i go when i have to. I have had recurring migrains and an ulcer. I have a doc. so when i can see him i do, but one time i went to Er after throwing up for about 15 hours straight, it was food poisoning not the ulcer, i waiting in minor care for hours, knowing since i worked in the medical industry and family does too, that it would just be long, no biggy no complaints. then minor care closed and i was shifted over to er, (baptist bmt) and put on a gurney. i waited in the HALL for two hours as i sat looking at the nurses station while they had shift change and break etc. waiting on someone to just start my iv fluids. compassionately an emt stopped and started my iv. by this time my veins were hard to find and i was good and dehydrated, a nurse was stopped and he hooked up my meds. i was soooo thankful for the time that guy took to do that that i wrote in and thanked him. my mother was the auditor and ER soon got audited and the gultiy parties were more on their toes but why do they have to go thru that ? i know about the dandy little phone number to the big dudes that is on the admitting papers, and one call will get an investigation, but why do that ?
i KNOW there are nurses etc like you two that care and will help and know that er is frustrating but there are those that play with fire when they are negligent and people like me can take action. that is the "beef" i have with er.
sorry, you can defend it if you want, i know you two are great and would never leave a patient like that unless there is a situation that calls for more attention.

oooo.. pretty truck Steve laugh

Angel, most of the time, at least in my experience, if you see a nurse standing around at the station it's because we're waiting on the doctor to get around to that particular patient. There might be 20 nurses, but usually few doctors, so they have to make the rounds and write the orders before we can do anything more than the usual first-things-first duties. We can do that stuff in a few minutes, but it might take hours before a doctor can finish with one patient and move to the next. That doesn't even count waiting on tests, then the results of such tests, from other departments.

Doesn't help the really sick people that the hundred people with colds show up and we have to wait on them to give them the tylenol they should have taken and stayed at home with... you gotta be bleeding seriously, having chest pains, or something really whack to get put in front of the legions of eejits out there.

got off work at 1:45. smash I went to check on the xray dept - it was just one girl and she was trying to get xrays on a drunk who was in a car accident. She apologized a few times for taking so long, but she really did need some help.

the doctor checked the xrays and decided to send the little patient home. a last check of her temp showed it to be over 105 tho eek so she ended up staying anyways rolleyes
