I was in the little CVS (drug store) getting a perscription filled. I wasn't alone there were so many folks that it was going to be at least a 30 minute wait. Since I had some time, I thought I would just go make a fool of myself and read and laugh at some greeting cards As I was making my way the pharmacist called out the next name and a very elderly gentleman began to approach the counter. He got hung up on the corner of one of the shelving units and his feet got tangled and he just fell right into the aisle. I wasn't close enough to reach him, but luckily a quick-thinking man was able to at least catch him enough to break his fall. He did land on the floor and it took us a few minutes to help him back up to his feet. I asked him if he had a cane or some sort of walker as he was really very frail and he said that he had left it in the car. Luckily, he didn't think he had hurt himself. *sigh* He then proceeds back to the counter where he is now expected to pay $100.78 for his meds. We got him back to his car and his wife was there so he was ok then. I go back to the pharmacy (without reading the cards) and there is another man called forward and his perscription was $87.82. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out barely enough to pay. I am just so mad/sad/sick that we live in a country where the people that need the medications the most are the same ones that can afford them the least. How do these poor people survive? I think they must literally have to make choices between alleviating maladies and eating. I don't have any real solutions to offer and I guess I just needed to express my remorse.

I hear ya, embie...and the people who don't really need them (ie abuse them) can get them so easily sometimes... We caught one today that kept calling for refils on the cough syrup. We got suspicious because the name was so familiar, called the pharmacy and found out that they had gotten the rx refilled three days ago...and one week before that, and a week and a half before that...using different children's names from the family, (they have 3) and one of the kids that the syrup got refilled for had just been in a few days earlier for a well check and was not sick at all... And then there is the momma who waits 7 days to call anyone...2 year old hadn't been to the bathroom for SEVEN DAYS... ???! That's just neglect. I don't understand people...

I'm not sure if this forum was created for pettiness, but I feel a little petty right now and I just wanna post and I'm gonna cos no one else is posting here so it's all about me... I just think it stinks that you decide to have a company wide food drive and you can't even get two shopping carts filled. WHAT THE %$^# !?!?!?! ("heck" for all those backslidden minds...rofl) Um...IT'S THANKSGIVING!!!! Do these blind, inconsiderate, "humans" realize that there are people out there that have no socks for their feet never mind food for their plates? When they are out buying their "trimmings" can't they just buy an extra can of something? It doesn't even have to be a brand name for crying out loud. These soup kitchens surely won't turn away green beans cos they are in a Shop Rite can. And how about those out there at their discount liquor stores filling their carts with "spirits"? Maybe they should get a touch from the Holy Spirit and give someone a turkey instead. Or possibly take the $29.95 for their carton of cigarettes and spring for a winter coat for a cold child. OMG, I know I'm ranting but we are one day away from turning over our "collection" to the Salvation Army and I am embarrassed to even see them coming. I always feel like I have to make up for those that are lacking in this area. Like taking the last two names on the Angel tree cos there are two kids that NO ONE will take their names for a lousy $15.00 Christmas gift... Oh man, I know I need to get a grip, I am just so frustrated with the "world". Please pray for me...I also know that anger is NOT a fruit of the Spirit...

I've got the flu well, I think it's the flu...either that or anthrax...and that would really stink I was sick most of the Thanksgiving holiday but I forced myself to do the family things. I'm not in work today and maybe not tomorrow. Wednesday I get my flu shot I am NEVER sick. My kids have brought home some stuff this year and they have gotten sick a couple times already. I think it's cos some parents are forced to send their children to school even when they're not feeling well. So it goes around and around. Usually I am just gifted with a Thanksgiving cold sore but this year was extra special. That's all, I'm just plain cranky! And I can't stop sneezing or coughing. I could get a job right now as an awesome foghorn

Ick, that sounds yucky. I have not gotten the flu yet, and i by-passed the flu shot (call me paranoid)cause i never have gotten it, and am alive and fine ... well, not fine ... i have a gripe .. i CANT GET MOTIVATED! I am actually overweight for the first time in my life, and i just met a female trainer at our gym that said she will train me for FREE and yet, i still cant get into the "groove" .. i am soo embarrassed to go to the gym (used to be all that) and so i am avvoiding it altogether. I am really in a better place in life (priority-wise) yet i cant find it in me to motviate to get back into shape, which i have always made it a POINT to be in shape. What's up with that ? Maybe after like the gain of 10 pounds, you just fo-get-a-bout-it .... Just had to gripe about me griping !

GET TO THAT GYM!!! Do you have any idea how many women would kill to have a personal trainer and for FREE??? I know how you feel about that 10 pounds..but listen, the first visit is the hardest. Once you get there you will see many people that wish they just had 10 pounds to lose. The point is those people are DOING something about it. Weight loss/body training is NEVER easy..sometimes it KILLS...but...what will you be NEXT Thanksgiving if you don't start being serious now? Here's the cliche'.....No Pain...No Gain... It's sooo true! *DISCLAIMER* The above note was from someone who loves you and wants the best for you...not someone who just likes to yell...

Okay, not to be crabby, but I guess that's what this forum is for...so maybe I'm in the right place, but all of this obsessing over being the perfect size and shape is starting to really get to me. I understand diet and exercize. And I know that eyes roll when you quote that famous verse straight out of the Bible that "exercize benefits little..." but I am tired of people being so stressed and so obsessed about the way that they look (including me so I'm not pointing fingers). If we could all learn to be content with each other and ourselves THE WAY WE ARE, then we would be alot happier people. Like I said, I understand that it's not good for you to be obese and not watch your diet and be a couch potato...but the stress that we put on having a perfect body literally has people killing themselves because they can't measure up. How's that healthy? I know that for a while I felt like I was less worthy of love because of that extra 10lbs, but I have come to realize that I am just the same person that I was before, although I'm not always feeling hungry, my blood sugar level is good, I'm not passing out every week, not anemic...and I've come to grips with the fact that not everyone can fit a personal trainer into their lives. Maybe in a couple of years, but now??? When you count it up in the grand scheme of things, would I do good to sacrifice 5 hrs a week with my little girl for a better body??? Would I do good to sacrifice 5 hrs of sleep a week? Sacrifice a worship service? What??? Because those are the three options...and what would I have to show for it when later? Will my little girl remember that momma had a nice butt or will she remember that I spent time with her?????
Somebody tell me why this is such an obsession...I understand health. But self-degredation because you aren't the perfect size 5 anymore isn't healthy...

When my ex left me for a woman 12 years younger than I was, I got into such a depression that I didn't care about anything, let alone myself or my appearance. "The other woman" (blonde, thin, pretty) told me that I got what I deserved from my husband. For a year I believed it was true. I got so sick with life that I gained nearly 80 pounds. Wanna now talk about a self image? I had none..I was pitiful, inside and out. When I finally came to the realization that I was the victim of his sin, I got myself back together and started the task of getting myself back into shape. I was a mess. I am still a little shy of where I want to be right now, and it has nothing to do with anything other than I just want my old self back. I don't give up any time with my children to accomplish my goals. I workout early before they get up...I don't go to the gym, but I do have alot of equipment at my home. I have also set up a "workout" routine for my son and we do things together and he spots me (not really but he thinks he is ) when I lift. My daughter runs track so we love to go for "runs", and if it means that I miss a couple hours sleep each week, that's what I'm willing to trade for my own peace of mind. I know there is alot of emphasis on "looks" and it's not what is on the outside that matters, believe me, I clung to that idea for that entire year. But I also believe it matters what YOU (figurative) think of YOURSELF. I was miserable like I was and now I think it's more like a defense mechanism for me. I WILL NOT allow myself to get into such a state again. This is just my way. I wouldn't tell anyone that they should be thinner or exercising more. I will answer anyone that does ask for thoughts on the subject. Angel was concerned about her 10 pounds. I was just trying to encourage her if that was the direction that she wanted to go in. Crabby is allowed , but I claimed Petty last week Still love ya Sis!

Sure...everyone loves me. Just not enough to speak to me. I wasn't meaning that you meant that she wasn't good enough. Just wanted to make that clear. I just get really depressed by all of this talk of if I could only loose 10lbs my life would be more complete...I fall into that mentality too, and as I said I wasn't pointing fingers. I just think that society's mentality that you have to be thin in order to be pretty or sexy or even worthy is flat out disgusting and the fact that so many people take it to heart so far as to kill themselves because they can't reach that goal or kill themselves trying or make it an obsession to the point where nothing else matters just makes me sad...

Wanted to clarify something just so as not to be misunderstood or repremanded... I wasn't talking about anyone here...I'm talking about society in general, and I'm not talking about people who lose weight to get healthy...I'm talking about people who are so deluded or deceived that they take it too far...just the topic of weight loss brought up the subject and it's something I had been talking to some people earlier about...
a 13 year old girl who came into the office and took off her shoes to weigh, cried because she had gained 3 lbs since 6 mo ago and her mother who stood over her telling her that she was going to have to put a lock on the fridge...the girl was ~5ft 4 and couldn't have weighted 90 lbs soaking wet and she had big hair. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about...
Angel's post just reminded me of it...hope that clarifies things.

Yeah, obsession is bad. Health is good. I think if you do it for healthful reasons and for a bit of self-image then it's ok. There was a long time of many years when I was obsessed with working out, gaining muscle, losing fat, measuring every little carb/fat/protein I ate. I had time then to do such things and it made the difference for me. Now, after a long layoff of such things, I am getting back toward those days... not nearly as strict, but healthy and doable... I've lost ~11lbs in the last month and have another 10 or so to go . Giving up a little time I would devote to something else is a relatively small price to pay for the benefits - clothes fit better, I have more energy, I like the way I look, I'll be training with my brother some times, live longer, etc.... time involved for a simple routine shouldn't be more than ~2 hours/week.
