That depends.... Does it fall in a grove of orange trees in south Florida with no one around, but there is a video camera recording the incident, however the sound is turned off??? *giggle* God bless ya! okay, forget the whole sound of colors thing. Think about this one: "If there were two guys walking around in a dark, empty room, one was blind and the other deaf, which person should lead the other?" ------------------ Wellll...Praise Him!

Well, assuming that both the blind man and the deaf were of equal abilities in the remaining senses the blind man should lead only because Christian put them in a "dark" room so sight becomes useless. Now for the sound of color thing..... Orange is one of those peaceful colors sorta like a day at the beach, the barbecue going, music playing stuff like that. Red on the other hand sounds like battles, warriors, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. If you let your imagination be fueled by what is in your soul and heart you can pretty much "hear" what any color sounds like. ------------------ - John

You guys are really freaking me out! not really. I like this topic because it sounds like something I would think of. I have very random thoughts. Making logic out of illogical questions! . In the case of the blind and deaf man, the blind man would lead because he has adapted himself to use his other senses to get him around. Besides, the darkness doesn't affect the blind man anyways! The deaf man's sight is impaired by the darkness and he hasn't adapted his other senses to lead him through. I think colors are associated with certains ounds. What sounds do you think of when you see the color blue? I think of the waves crashing in the ocean, or birds chirping when they are flying through the sky. Ok, now Im getting deep ------------------ crazy white girl

Now Jason, remember that if you introduce another tangent ,such as, "they sit there eating grapes" people are going to want to know how a blind guy and a deaf guy in a dark room got grapes? Personally I think it's more feasible for them to discuss the colors of sound. Anyway I hope everyone has a good 4th of July. Stay cool! ------------------ - John

Yea, how can a deaf guy talk about sound with the blind man if he can't hear anyways?!?!?! And if it's dark they can't sign to each other! Think people! And where do the grapes come from?!?! Must be some of that quantum physics/mechanics jim talked about. ------------------ crazy white girl

what sound do you hear inside your soul right now? that is the sound of orange...because, you see, sound is blind...so it cannot see colors, and colors have no ears to decide what sound they will make. Therefore, we know it is only our Creator that has created all colors to make the sound your imagination believes them to. The blind man discusses with the deaf man about a world he has never been to...and likewise for the deaf man. if the blind man has been without sight for his entire life, he does not see the colors that the deaf man sees, he does not see at all. the blind man does not see colors, he sees only what his imagination has created in the place of his eyes. if the deaf man has been without hearing his entire life, he is not able to discuss the sound of colors, because his ears have never known sound. Besides, for all they know...they are two people sitting alone in a dark room, eating grapes. ------------------ follow God.

Lighten up guys! The reality of the situation is not the issue. Ofcourse there is no way at all on our planet for a blind man to discuss about the colors of anything, let alone sound. On the same hand, there is no way at all on our planet for a deaf man to discuss anthing with a blind guy. I mean how's the blind guy gonna "see" the signing of the deaf man?! The discussion works only if we allow for these unnatural things to occur as an everyday happening. The issue is the colors of sound. To be too literal in a discussion of this nature...that is a path that can only lead to madness. Did you all see some kind of fireworks last night? They were really awesome! ------------------ - John

That's what I meant to discuss! Helen Keller, deaf, mute and blind, "talked" of many things by signing while placing her hands in the hands of others... a huge example of not letting circumstances dictate how you react in situations, don't you think? I am sure she talked about sounds, colors, darkness, etc, tho she had never experienced most of it herself... The firworks were last night, for sure! ------------------ Allen

This is getting deep. That the blind man and the deaf man can or cannot find common ground is not the issue; after all people with varied difference come together with one common bond every Monday night for a little thing called Stand. However, the reference point for the blind man will be different than the reference point for the deaf guy because of their respective disabilites. The blind man though not seeing will have his other senses enhanced but he will have another point of reference other than sight. Likewise, the deaf man will have his other senses enhanced but he also will have another point of reference for his senses other than sound. Because the point of reference for their senses will be different for both of the guys; how they relate to the world around them and in turn how they communicate will be different to the point that they won't be able to understand each other's references. The analogy that best explains this: The US military loves to use acronyms to define things. Anybody you know who has spent time in the military will use a whole host of acronyms in thier speech without realizing it. ( For example talk to my brother.) However, each branch of the military use different acronyms for the same thing. So, for example, when someone in the airforce and someone in the navy or even the marines for that matter talk, though they are talking about the same exact event thier acronyms (point of refernce) are so different that they end up not even understanding each other. Which is why I said that it was impossible for the deaf guy and the blind guy to discuss the colors of sound with each other. ------------------ - John

okay... everybody ...y'all art making these things a little too difficult, which shouldnt really happen! the true question is this. The deaf guy ( Donn ) is a total jerk! He's actually playing a cruel joke on the blind man ( Bob ). Bob only thinks they are grapes?! i dont think that wast very Christ-like of Donn to do so, but then again Donn is lost and Bob is like a Jesus- freak and THEY ARE BOTH IN A DARK ROOM not knowing of anything of what is aroung them... ------------------ Wellll...Praise Him!

Christian, You realize that setting new givens about the blind and the deaf guy will open up a whole new universe of options and possiblities concerning where this topic goes. For example, Did the saved guy get saved before he obtained his handicapp or after? And the lost guy; will his handicapp lead him to Jesus or not? And will the issue of salvation bring up colors not previously discussed before thier salvation became an issue? Rock on tonight, keep it cool man. ------------------ - John

The deaf guy isn't gonna be able to show too much to the blind guy considering the blind guy can't see. However, the deaf guy will be able to let the blind guy hear the sound a grape makes when eaten by eating said grapes next to the blind guys ear. What's the deaf guy gonna do when he has no more grapes to eat because he ate them all? Do you think the deaf guy will share the grapes with the blind guy? ------------------ - John

when you put these two completely different people together, you have all five senses. if the blind man helps the deaf man to hear the sounds he hears, the deaf man can explain to the blind person what he cannot understand without sight.
...and they both seem to like grapes

It's amazing! From one simple hypothetical situation we manage to get 3 pages! The color of the grapes wouldn't really matter. Remember, the situation said that it was a dark room the guys were in. The deaf man can't see cause it's dark and obviously the blind man can't see. So the color wouldn't make a difference. Except that purple grapes have a different taste that green grapes. Green grapes are more tart. That's when preference is a factor. Both of the guys would have to agree on which kind of grape they would want to eat, depending on which kind they liked. BUT, if they can't communicate which kind they like cause it's dark then I guess that it leads back to the point that it doesn't matter what the color is! OK, my head is spinning now ------------------ crazy white girl

Very astute observation, Forgiven. To say that this discussion has gone beyond the boundries of our own universe would be and understatement. However, it is interesting to observe people's reactions to the way the discussion has come and gone in and out of the realms of intelligence and sanity. Personally, I like the purple grapes myself. ------------------ - John

So let's just say that the outside color or the shell it's packaged in doesn't matter. What matters is the fullfillment of the inside or the "fruit." And these two guys are trying both to share the "fruit" they know with the other.
One might think his is the best....and the other the same.
Now, one fact that you have to know ( and test me if you don't believe me) if you peel a green and a purple grape they taste exactly the same. It's true. A grape of any color will taste tart or sweet based on its age and not it's color.
But, Lightbulb makes a good statement when it is stated " BUT, if they can't communicate which kind they like cause it's dark then I guess that it leads back to the point that it doesn't matter what the color is! OK, my head is spinning now"
What I mean is What difference does it make how christian we look on the outside or how holy we gleam when we are in the limelight, if we do not know how to explain the FRUIT that we possess on the inside.
It's time we remember that it is not about this ministry or that belief or even this or that denomination...because if you peel away all of the outside we all possess the same fruit. What we need to do, as Lightbulb put it, is try to figure out using all of our combined senses how to explain and/or understand the situations (THE DARK ROOM) and each others individual perceptions (BLIND and DEAF), to better realize that we are all looking for the same reality.

Actually Whit, it was me that said all that not lightbulb. Read the posts again . Well I think you've pretty much summed up the whold situation and related it back to our Christian lives. Very good use of analogy. Amber ------------------ crazy white girl

Jason, most execellently done! You were very astute in your observation of how our trip through insanity relates to Christ. As for your question about what color orange makes....hmmmm. For me, orange is the color of a day where the sun is out, the sky is filled with all kind of cool looking clouds and there is a breeze blowing to soothe the spirit. ------------------ - John
