I think these were their names. I'm not ambitious enough to check further. My question to the membersjip is this. Does anybody get any comfort or joy because of their deaths.
I know these were horrible human beings that did despicable acts. When the announcement first came over the airwaves (unconfirmed) it left me sort of numb. I guess ambivelent might fit my feeling. I was glad that they would no longer be able to commit the atrocities that they are infamous for.
By the time it was confirmed, my feelings hadn't changed much if any but still, I can't seem to get passed their having been someone's sons, father, brother. It made me sad for them. I suppose if their deaths had actually meant the end of the problems over there I may have felt more. But since in the final analysis it's just two more people dead and no major change in the big picture of the state of the world I can't muster any good feelings about it.
I' don't visit many sites and have only seen mention of this at one other. The tone of the post which had had no replies was an up we got 'em kinda thing. Now all we need to do is get Sadam. I suppose again if getting this one more person, changed everything wrong in the middle east, I could get excited over it. But I doubt very much that Sadam's death would be the end of hatred, and greed and suppression that is world wide not just a mid eastern problem.
I'd like to hear others opinions of this.

Personally, I never really find joy in death. However, I can't deny the grim satisfaction... From a Christian perspective, however, I recognize that such is only my human nature, which is not [in Jesus' name] the nature that rules me.
From a more logical standpoint, I was never all that comforted by the thought of removing Saddam from his position or killing him while his sons were still alive. Truth is, they are ten times worse than he was, which makes sense. They were raised by a totalitarian dictator, who saw his own deeds as wondrous. So, how would he raise his sons to be better than himself other than to prepare them to be even more totalitarian, and even more ruthless?
So, bidding Saddam adieu just made me concerned about what could follow... The military could have chosen to follow his 'heir' which could have proven disastrous. As bad as Saddam was, he was a boy scout compared to his kids.
Personally, I'm glad that they are no longer a threat.

I was sad to hear one of our soldiers say that at least now, their deaths made the war "worth it". In the midst of the emotion and horror of their offenses, it is hard to remember that these people have been deceived and they were raised to hate. It is the enemy that blinds and binds us. The lost are just that, lost. We have to feel sorry that the enemy's kingdom is likely to have just been increased by two.

True, I felt some unease when I saw the video on TV... they are/were human beings and now gone. If the stories from Iraq are true tho, these 2 guys who were sons, fathers, uncles, etc were also responsible for brutally torturing and murdering thousands every year. It was under their 'leadership' that those mass graves were filled. Amnesty International put the figure at 50,000 civilians per year just disappearing over there.
No, I don't get any joy from it, but they really were unremorseful animals who raped, pillaged, and burned whenever, wherever, and whoever, they felt.

I guess I'm torn between my human feelings of glad that they can't continue to do those things, feeling unpatriotic because of NOT being happy about it and glad I'm still human or sensitive enough that I don't like this any better than what they've done. I'm glad I'm not alone in feeling no joy. Just needed some reassurance that I'm not the bad guy too.

I was too unsettled becuase they posted their faces on the tv and said, basically, to rejoice. it reminded me how REAL war is. i felt a human pity, then remembered that i had also been hearing every day about another american soldier died or was wounded. i remember 911 and the anger, i DONT think we should forget what led up to this. none of this is "humane",its war, and its hard....but the death of two evil men toward the goal of liberating a country is good news. i think we have a tough time here in america grasping what it would be to live in a violent, war torn ditatorship. in the scheme of things, i think it IS good news.

Hmm elated? nah. Releived is probably more accurate, but only in the sense that the attrocities that they heaped on their own people will stop. It could have happened differently, they could have turned themselves in like real men and stood trial, they didn't have to die. Alas they did choose their own destiny as it were.
Bottom line a life is a life and where there is still life there is still hope for salvation. Even though the acts they committed make our very souls cringe in disgust and even spark the seeds of hate we have to keep in mind that God sent his son to die for them just as he did for us "good" people. God loved them to the very end and I guarantee it broke his heart to see them die (presumably) unrepentant and unconverted. (and also should break ours!)
