Gonna shelve this one for now.... I am still reading the book (am ~2/3 the way through it), but it seemed to be more of a book report than discussion. I'll pick the thread back up in the future.... lemme know if you get around to purchasing the book, I'll restart it again sooner.

Strobel provides very good resources for apologetics.
To anyone interested in such things I would suggest:
To Everyone An Answer by - Beckwith, Craig and Moreland.
How Now Shall We Live - Chuck Colson
Understanding the Times - David Noebel

All great books for starting out in apologetics.

you know i just started reading this book... i am about halfway through it... a real "thinker book"... written with pretty advanced vocab... i actually keep a list going of the words i dont understand, and go look em up... my Bible study wants to do this book, and we would be starting it in a few weeks... did anyone ever do this as a study in a small group? i would be very interested in any discussion guides... they have 3 questions at the end of each chapter, but i think i would like more. i did purchase the movie... havent watched it yet because i want to finish the book first. just wondering what everyone's thoughts were,,, i agree with the above synopses thus far... he is interviewing these very educated folks and trying to paint a legal case for Christ's authenticity in who Christians claim He is.

I haven't seen a small group for the book, that would be cool to discuss it in a group. I just read it myself. What have you liked best so far? Read anything new?

wow... i finally finished The Case for Christ... It is quite a book! He goes through in a very systematic and organized way as though he were in a court of law to prove or disprove the claims that Christ indeed existed, that He was the true Son of God, that He died and was buried and rose again. He uses pieces of information from other historical sources in coordination with information from different books of the Bible dating them back to the earliest dates we have recorded when and where those parts of the Bible were found. He also uses expert testimony from historians, and doctors. One part i found incredibly moving was a doctor who spoke to whether or not Jesus could have survived the crucifixion (to counter the "conspiracy theory" that Jesus actually survived the crucifixion). It brought tears to my eyes as it described the agony and inevitable shut down of all the systems in His body.

The final chapter takes it all in account, and the author describes how he himself now had to decide what to do with the information that led him to only 1 possible conclusion... Jesus is real... He is alive today... He came here with only 1 possible intent... to die in our stead because He loves us that much... and the author then accepts Christ... it is incredibly moving.

I also purchased the DVD Case for Christ, which condenses it to a pretty engaging 72 min video... not nearly as thorough, but still gives a "taste" of the book.

For purposes of our small group... i opted to do a shorter apologetics study that was endorsed by Lee Strobel... on the authenticity of the Bible. its from a series called "the tough questions series" by Judson Poling.

Anyway, it was a powerful read... i took copious notes and have to go look a number of things up. but i am glad i read it... opened a whole side of my faith i never really thought of before. the actual "Historical" data out there that acts as corroborating evidence.

I havent been here for a while -
I just completed an 8 week apologetic cource I was presenting on Worldview studies - I travel an present this if any church is interested. There is also a condensed version.

Lee Strobel has several books out that are a big help and mostly introductory.

I encourage anyone interested in this sort of study to ck his writings out!
