Finally picked a book I had been waiting on for quite a while in hardback but they never got it in, so I got the paperback tonight:

The Case For Christ by Les Strobel
- A Journalist's Personal Investigation of the Evidence for Jesus

If nobody does or doesn't care (gonna do it anyways ) I'll be sharing parts of it from over the next few weeks while I am reading it and digging in. Has anyone else here read it yet? Would love to discuss the ideas/ information presented if you have.

An excerpt from the back:

quote:

Is there credible evidence that Jesus of Nazereth really is the Son of God?

Retracing his own spiritual journey from atheism to faith, Lee Strobel, former legal editor of The Chicago Tribune, cros-examines a dozen experts with doctorates from schools like Cambridge, Princeton, and Brandeis who are recognized authorities in their own fields.

Strobel challenges with questions like How reliable is the New Testament? Does evidence exist for Jesus outside the Bible? Is there any reason to believe the resurrection was an actual event?

Strobel's tough, point-blank questions make this remarkable bok read like a captivating fast-paced novel. But it's not fiction. It's a riveting quest for the truth about history's most compelling figure.

What will your verdict be in The Case for Christ?

I am sure the reason there was only paperback is so I'll pass it on after reading...

Why don't we form a sort of book club and all read it? Then we can discuss it in real time laugh

How far into have you gotten Allen? Can you hold up long enough for us to catch up?

I've gotten to the back cover.... haven't quite made it inside yet, I think you guys should be able to catch up

I love to read, just haven't done much of it recently with me wearing calluses on my fingertips... smile

I imagine you plan to use the girls book club for girly-kinda-issues and books, eh? Not that he's a girl, but TD Jakes has several good women's books out...

Let's stop seeing this as the same issue as the gir's study. It's possible to read more than one book at a time! The Case for Christ is something that I am interested in, and I also very interested in the women's study. Those who choose to do both can do so. It's not going to take away from the girl's study if other people are interested in this book. Let's not look at one idea as a bad idea and the other as good. It's not a competition unless we make it one. I for one would like to start the women's study very soon, and I think that all of the book ideas have been wonderful. I'll post my thoughts over there as to where I think we should start and why. And as far as the Case for Christ goes, I am currently seeking a copy as well. I think Allen should start the discussion since He got the book first...as soon as he starts reading the book, that is...

Never meant to be a study-group, let alone a competition... I would like to discuss it as I go along in it tho.... others are more than welcome to get the book and contribute. This has nothing to do with the women's book study, you guys got completely different things to study and discuss smile

BTW, CCC's bookstore has a small novel-sized paperback available for $6, I think there's 3 left if anyone wants to go by and get one...

Will reopen for bidness tomorrow night meat
