NIV: Acts 8:37 is missing... It goes from 36 to 38.

It's in the King James... But not in the NIV. Looking in the King James, I would say it is a pretty impotant verse. Take a look and tell me what you think? Do you know why?

Apparently there are some questions in regards to manuscripts and their completeness, some NIV versions put a footnote in saying that verse 37 was in some late manuscripts but not in earlier manuscripts:

Read the footnotes at the bottom.

In one of the bibles I've been looking at, the footnote says: "8:37 This verse is not found in the oldest and most reliable manuscripts."

At this point I beleive that there have been several hundred "original" manuscripts found. Different translations were taken from different manuscripts. The NIV being the "newest bible" was translated from some of the oldest manuscripts to date. Hence the differences. There is another one in Matthew somewhere that is also absent from the NIV. Many places this causes Christians to start arguing tooth and nail over who is right. I kinda figure God is right and He can sort my misinterpretations out! <img src="smile.gif" border="0" alt="" />

It doesn't change how I feel... And I'm hardly about to fight over it... It's just that my curiosity is killing me!

there are a few verses missing in the NIV, after noticing one time I called someone that i look up to spiritually and asked, he said that he thought that there are some verses that the hebrew would not translate into english, or something to that nature, so where better left unsaid than mistranslated. the message is still clear with or without these few verses though.
