My pastor this morning gave a sermon on giving. A couple of his points were 1). giving makes you more like God 2).Giving breaks the grip of materialism. There is so much that we want that we forget that others have a greater need. Sometimes we say we can't give, for one lame excuse or another, but a message we had at Stand a couple of months ago talked about sacrifice and one of the points was "the greater the sacrifice the greater the blessing." And it is true, if we give all we have God will greatly reward us. If the poorest person is willing to give everything he has, then we can also give. God has really put this on my heart, lately and with the holidays, you almost can't escape the need. As I am rebuilding my relationship with God, He is convicting me more and more of my need to give to others and I hope some of you feel the conviction too, because giving brings us so much closer to God and his will for us.

I mean...good point there, sisss-tah. I have felt that conviction very strongly even before the holiday season started. Not only for material giving, but for giving of my time, attention, and love. I'm glad you brought that up!
