Dianne Sawyer will interview Mel Gibson in regards to his new movie "The Passion Of The Christ" Monday night on your ABC afilliate. I beleive it will be around the 6-7 o'clock hour.
I heard the interview is like a half hour or so. It ought to be good!

It's funny the reviews I have heard on this. Most of them have actually been good......with the exception of a Sunday School Teacher this weekend. Ouch! Said it was too violent, to anti-jewish and that she refused to see it. I wonder where she got her impressions from?

It is terribly violent. But the truth of our salvation is when you look at the gospels and the facts recorded in them. Jesus did not die in his sleep, I wonder if she (teacher) really realizes that.
I hit the record button on the VCR as I walked out the door to work. I caught just a glimpse as I headed out of the room. Dianne was giving a prelude and she said the "Passion" that is in the title refers to the original context of the word. Which draws its heritage from the old greek "Passus" which means "having suffered." That changes the definition a bit don't ya think!

My mom saw this and said it was awesome! She wished she had taped it for me, but took some good notes. I'd love to have a tape of it if anyone has a copy. Will send a check or paypal. Or if there is a video file of it online anywhere - please let me know. Praise God for what He's doing through this movie!

I wonder if there will be reference to the fact that Jesus' suffering was not exclusively limited to the period after he was arrested. Most Christians tend to gloss over the fact that the suffering of his Atonement for all mankind began at Gethsemane... </font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Jesus bled from every pore before he was scourged, before he was crucified, before his side was pierced by the soldier at Golgotha. His agony began in Gethsemane and the spiritual anguish within him that was caused by our sins was so painful to his soul that it was manifest by sweating blood. So intense was his spiritual and mental agony that it pained him physically to the point where an angel was sent to strengthen him.
Most people forget Gethsemane, I hope this movie doesn't.

According to Mr. Gibson, Joel, the film covers the last twelve hours of Christ's life. His suffering in the garden somehow never escaped me from youth up so even if the film didn't make a special point of it, I don't suppose it would be lost to others either.
I was a little disappointed in the interview. With the conviction and purpose he claims I felt he could have answered some questions better than he bothered. As for antisemitism, I think he made the point that Crist died for all humans, not just some pretty well. I believe he may have made a stronger case for it being His Fathers will and all of our collective sins not any man that killled him.
He felt that the Holy Spirit inspired him to do it. He doesn't claim that his portrayal is exactly how it may have been but that the Spirit moved him to make a very violent film unlike so many others before it which glossed over the brutality. He wanted people to be deeply affected and to contemplate what they saw to prove Gods love for us.
The fear of viloence and anti-semitism comes from the human place. We humans seem to need someone to blame for all things. The fact that the romans and jews were the people involved at the time automatically places the blame on them. He made it pretty clear that although the San Hedrin (sp) seemed to want him gone only Pilate had the authoerity to make it happen. Thereby bringing the romans back into it. It could never have been accomplished by the jews alone. My feeling is that many of us for a long long time have shirked our role in His death by blaming jews or anyone. Ater all it was His Fathers will be done. It was the ultimate act of love for mankind.

Just saw, of all shows.... ET Entertainment Tonight and it had some footage from Passion on it. They also interviewed James Caviezel (he played Christ) and he said that indeed doing one scene on the cross he was struck by lightning. He said the odd thing was that he knew it beforehand! Tomorrow night they interview the woman who plays Mary, Jesus' mother. Interesting note, the actress is a devout Jew...

Well I sat down and got to watch the tape tonight, it was rather good. Mr. Gibson was well versed and well spoken. You could see genuine concern in the furrows of his brow as he talked to Dianne Sawyer. There was just a hint of exasperation as you could tell some of the questions he had answered for the bazillionth time.
Two things stood out.
1. His real passion to make the movie and his unapologetic tone </font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">"If you don't like it, don't see it. If it gets to you half way through, then get up and leave. No one is forcing this on anyone." Mel Gibson 02/16/03</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">2. The real evangelical passion that is in his heart that everyone see such a gospel. This is astounding to me as people from conservative "old world" religions don't do well in the evangelical business. (ie catholics, episcopalians, presbyterians etc. not that they don't you just don't see much of it.)
Disapointments:
Really the only thing I was disapointed about were some of the blatantly naive questions that Dianne asked, ones that even a smattering of knowledge of the basics of Christianity would answer. I don't know if she felt she had to sak them to get Mr. Gibson to explain himself better or to pacify some special interest. I thought that took away a little from the interview. All in all it was great though.

James Caveizel and Mary Hart interview tonight </font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif"> Mary: "Has playing in this movie strengthened your belief?" James: "I love my Lord, ...I love Him. And now, I love Him more than ever." </font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">On national TV... Too Cool! (way up)

A little off topic but just hink it's so cool whenever a sports star or anyone of fame refers/thanks to God/Jesus or their close and personal relationship with God.

I missed the interviews. I had to work. But, there were many articles in the weekend news papers. I read all of them. I also got our tickets. I am so excited that Lake Charles is getting this movie. It is an hours drive...but, I can't wait. Interesting that the majority of the days were sold out already.
I believe that there are many who will go see it simply for the controversy of it all. (My Chris is one or "them"). But, I am putting lots of faith in what I have read and heard...that he may be "touched" by what he sees. Our tickets are for March 1, Only because I have to work every other day that it will be playing up until that time.
I expect to be moved. And I will bring my tissues. I can't wait.
