To be perfectly truthful, I curse a blue-streak under my breath - no-one hears but me and God I guess, but it *does* help to let off steam. I don't use God's name in vain, but I use most of the others

I'll say "What the monkey?" on occasion, just 'cause I like the word monkey, and I say it a lot. Mostly though it's more of a confused thing or just to make someone laugh, and not meant to be an explitive. I've also been known to say "monkey" or "awe, monkey" where others might say dang it (or something worse). I say dang it too, but most often in a long and drawn out way (daaaaang iiiiit), and my friends like making fun of me for it (so I say it a lot just to make them laugh). I say sorry in the same way a lot. So most of the time I say anything of the sort it's just to be funny (people think I'm a pretty weird kid), but when I do actually get angry the worst I'll say is dang it, and when something is really surprising at times I'll say holy cow (though I'm trying to not say that as much). My mom will say pickles, and when she gets really flabbergasted it'll be pickles and ice cream =).

AS usual....I chime in at the last! Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way. I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. Let not then your good be evil spoken of: (Rom 14:13-16) Many of the words and phrases described here are stumbling blocks to others. If...if another brother comes to you and ask that you not use those words or even questions why you use those words then we as true Christians will stop. Otherwise we are a stumbling block for our brothers. As for justifying and rationalization of our usage... If we begin to explain why we use then and add but you can be rest assured that you just entered into the world of justifying something that prehaps is questionable. Just something to think about.

Heh heh
Here is my $.02
Taking the Lord's name in vain: Using the Lord's name in a manner that compares you in some manner as an equal.(Vanity) Or using it to invoke a curse or blessing when you do not mean it. (God Da** that ignorant such and such) or (God Bless you even though you don't dserve it)
Other than that I "TRY" to follow this tidbit.
</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Matthew 12:36 But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. </font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That pretty much sews up all the borderline stuff. Personally I struggle at work. I work in a blue collar manufacturing plant and the language gets pretty rough. The minute I punch the clock and step away from that influence it gets easy.

Hear ya Steve. The company around anyone makes most things harder or easier. Main reason for choosing the company we keep most of the time.
I'm feeling a little bad here. I kinda started something that took on a life of it's own. the POINT I was trying to make was and this is for all of us, if you're going to talk the talk you'd better walk the walk or your message may go unheard or invalidated.

James 3:2 </font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">sounds good to me.

Sounds good to me too! This is James 3:2 in one of the versions I use. James 3 2We all make many mistakes, but those who control their tongues can also control themselves in every other way. 3We can make a large horse turn around and go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. Ephesians 4 29 Don't use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. Because of this topic/discussion I've become even more aware of what I'm now say especially in the presence of others. Even those words I think or say under my breath I'm more aware of and am focused on not thinking or saying them. So thanks Joel for making us all aware of it!!

I think everyone could use a good cursing at least once in a while - keeps the blood flowing Of course, I don't do that myself, but it might help...

good topic. God will know if you meant it or not. just doesnt want it to make a bad witness, make Him look bad. how you say it -not sure if that makes a diff. only prob I have with ''american slang'' is when aimed at me personally or someone i care for. otherwise just slip of tongue or maybe ignorance. but forgive-able . at least by me, its just crude to hear all in one sentence. when used lightly, one can have fun with the b word. women call each other that, maybe not verbally or in person. some races call their own the n word. but i would not dare. its not my place. even if angry or insulted. not my style. however if male, have used the other p word that rhymes with sick. hahaha I cant bring myself to use Gods name in vain, not on purpose anyway.some folks curse to be cute, show off, be mascho etc. ergo ignorance factor again. many of us gulty of cursing once, even not verbally. -happens. hahaha[sorry]

I am bad about saying ****... I've kinda gotten into a habit of sayin some other words... sometimes I juss don't think, and I wish I would have. I used to NEVER cuss. I hate that it's becoming habit. I don't really say anything unless I'm refering to the way I feel... I don't know. I know that God loves me where I'm at, and if I'll try he'll help me out of it.

He will if you ask. since you havent used HIS name in vain, Id say its forgive able . maybe find filler words. instead of -you, could say-well, bless you. that would trip offenders. use honey instyead of vinegar. see what reaction you get. it may even change your mood to better. humor helps me cope. sometimes it is hard to break that habit. just wait til you start defensive driving. hehehe
