Who is God to me and how do I know Him?

I first learned about the Trinity: God/Jesus/Holy Spirit in Sunday School. I accepted him in my heart as a child through faith; I believed that what I was being taught was, of course, true.

Not until junior high did I question who God was. So to answer your question to embie...yes, I do think you can have a relationship with Jesus and still have a God-sized whole in your heart. It's not that your relationship with Christ is unsatisfying...and cannot fill it. But, I believe that it takes time and effort to fill the whole more and more. Salvation is gaining our birthright into heaven, but it does not change the fact that we are human and so limited in our ways. And there is so much of our character and past that is only changed as we allow him to change is.

How do you chase after God? How do you know who He is?
First of all, Steve is right that it is all based on faith. Everyone has put there faith in something. To test that faith, read the Bible. To test it's infallibility, consider the incredible prophecies fulfilled. After it is evident that the Word of God is true, read it. Gen 1:1, John 1:1, and John3:16 are very clear in the existence of God and his relationship to us. One of the most profitable ways I have learned about God was reading the Bible. Also, I have spent much time in church, listening to others experiences with Him.
It was as I began to apply the principles I read in the Bible into my own life that I have gotten to know Him more. In the Bible it says "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind". One summer day, after my junior year, I asked God to show me how to love Him more than anything; I just could not comprehend it- and He did. I have seen the seeds my parents have sown bring forth fruit; they trusted in Him and He has blessed our family tremendously.
Take Him at His Word. Just like I have wanted to get to know people better and talked to HIm more, that is what I do with Him. When I want Him to show me something I ask Him/ take a principle out of the Bible and apply it.

Did I answer your question(s)?

Yes'm...that was sortof on the exact lines of what I was looking for.

I love what embie said here: <font color="blue">"He completed me . (of course the work is not complete, but I do not need anything else)"</font>

And what Vic said here: <font color="green">It was as I began to apply the principles I read in the Bible into my own life that I have gotten to know Him more.</font>

When you begin to search the Word of God, and test it in your own life, as well as one on one communication with Him (which follows His word), you find out that He does everything He said He would do...and that is how I know.

He does ask us to believe without seeing, but He does not ask us to believe blindly...He gives us a set of promises in His Word...and He keeps them all. It may take a while to see the evidence of them, but when you are seeking, you will see it.

Prayer...especially in areas of personal growth. When I have asked Him (with good motives and a pure heart) for something that was in His will, I have seen it happen instantly. And when I have gone and done something I know I shouldn't have, He is faithful to discipline me and let me know that I have messed up. But He always lets me know that He is there with arms wide open...

Anybody else?
