In verse 13 it says Greater love has no one then this, that he lay down his life for his frinds.

Because it is writen in read I know that Jesus is the one who is talking , but who is he in verse 13. Is he talking about his self.
I allways thought that it would be great to lay down my life for somone else. If I was to rescue someone like a Life guard would that be the kind of laying down ones life ?

In a literal sense, yes... I believe this also speaks figuratively, in that we lay down our life to follow Him...
