Getting Three Dimensional
A short Devotional

First lets talk a little geometry! The fewest number of sides that an object can have and still be three dimensional is four. Immediately you think to yourself a square, right? Wrong the 3-d version of a square, the cube, has six sides. Ok then pyramid? Nope that one has five but you are getting closer. A tetrahedron is the answer, it is simply a triangle that is 3-d. It has the fewest number of sides that an object can have (4) and still be 3-d.
Here is a tetrahedron, you will need it for the analogy:
<IMG SRC="http://www.mathconsult.ch/showroom/unipoly/01.256.gif" border=0>Now what does this have to do with the word of God? And how in the wide world are we supposed to make ourselves like that thing? Ok fair enough questions. Lets look at what God showed me in His word. There are four commands that he would have us do that would make us into three dimensional Christians. They were/are actually part of the Torah, the Old Testament Law that was handed to the nation of Israel through Moses.
The Word of God:
Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.* [5] Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. [6] These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. [7] Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. [8] Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. [9] Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
DT 6:10 When the LORD your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you--a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, [11] houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant--then when you eat and are satisfied, [12] be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
DT 6:13 Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name. OK here we go. The four sides to our three dimensional life and walk with God are this. The first side is to “Hear.” The original Hebrew word “shama” actually means to “Listen or obey” Side number two is “Love”, going once again to the original language we find that not only does “ ’ahab” mean our human love for God but also to be a friend, now that is neat! The third “Impress,” (shanan’) means “to sharpen, to teach.” Now number four “Fear,” in Hebrew “yare’ ” is translated to mean “fear, to revere, to be afraid.”
God would have us make these four principles part of our lives.
1. Listen -to God
2. Love -God
3. Teach -our children (real and spiritual)
4. Revere -God first and utmost in our lives
When we can accomplish that feat in our lives with God’s help then and only then will we become three dimensional Christians and just like the tetrahedron we will be pointing up toward Heaven!
Pray with me: Father I want to be a three dimensional Christian, give me the wisdom to teach, give me the heart to love, the stillness and discipline to listen and the humility to revere you above all else! Father I love you and honor you, may you always be praised. I thank you for your answer to my prayer, in JESUS name, Amen.
